Who is behind PROVEN?
Founded by Ming Zhao and Dr. Amy Yuan, PROVEN was born from their collective frustration of spending time, money, and energy on skincare products that didn't work. Amy is an award-winning computational scientist, and Ming has a Harvard MBA with a background in private equity. Ming and Amy launched PROVEN Skincare while both pregnant — at the same time.

Yes. PROVEN formulations are developed with our dermatology advisory board, led by Dr. Stafford Hollmig, former Head of Aesthetic Dermatology at Stanford. Every active ingredient and concentration in your formula is selected based on clinical research and matched to your Skin Genome™ results — so the formulation is right for your skin specifically.
Are the ingredients safe?
Yes. PROVEN only uses ingredients that are clinically tested for safety and efficacy. Every formulation is screened against EWG safety standards, free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, formaldehyde, and synthetic dyes, and never tested on animals. Each ingredient earns its place in your formula because the science says it works for your skin.

How PROVEN Works
How does PROVEN work end-to-end?
PROVEN works in three steps. First, you take the Skin Genome Quiz™ — about 3 minutes, with questions about your skin, environment, lifestyle, and goals. Second, your answers build a skin profile, and the algorithm uses it to build your formula — actives selected and dosed for your specific skin, not an average. Third, your products are made-to-order in FDA-approved labs in the USA and shipped on the cadence that works for you (usually every 4–12 weeks). As your skin changes, you update the quiz and the formula updates with it.

The Skin Genome Quiz™ is a simple 3-minute online quiz designed to simulate a dermatologist's evaluation. Based on your quiz answers, PROVEN builds a personalized skincare routine for your skin, lifestyle, environment, and skin concerns.
How long does the quiz take?
Once you've completed PROVEN's Skin Genome Quiz™, you can purchase your products, and we'll get to work finalizing your formulations.
Do I have to purchase after taking the quiz?
You'll only need to take the quiz if you're shopping our PROVEN Pro personalized line. If you're looking for a targeted routine, our SkinSpecific™ kits are pre-formulated and available to purchase, no quiz required.
Updating Your Quiz & Formula
How do I update my quiz answers or retake the quiz?
Both options update your formula the same way — the only difference is convenience.
If you've purchased from PROVEN (you have an account), sign in to your account and use Update Quiz in your Profile dropdown. It's a short follow-up — tell us what's changed and we recalibrate your formula for the next order.
If you haven't purchased yet, take the full Skin Genome Quiz™ again. The shorter Update Quiz becomes available after your first order.
How often should I retake the quiz?
Whenever something actually changes — a new sensitivity, a move, a stress shift, a pregnancy, a new condition. Your formula updates seasonally without a quiz retake (recalibrated to a forecast of the next two months in your zip code), so seasonal changes alone don't require an update from you. Save the retake for the changes the algorithm can't read on its own.
Can I retake the quiz after placing an order?
Yes — your quiz can be updated up until the day before your next order is scheduled to process. Once an order moves into processing, the formulas for that shipment are locked. Any quiz updates after that point apply to the following order. You can check your next order date anytime under Subscriptions & Orders.
Ingredients & Allergies
How do you handle ingredient allergies or sensitivities?
The Skin Genome Quiz™ asks about allergies, sensitivities, and ingredients you want to exclude — your formula is built around what you tell us.
If you develop a new allergy after starting PROVEN, sign in to your account and Update Quiz, then contact our Customer Care team so they can confirm next steps.
A sensitivity that shows up in the first 1–2 weeks may be purging (new actives engaging your skin) rather than a true reaction — that usually settles on its own. If something doesn't feel right or you're unsure whether it's purging, chat with us from the bottom right of any page or email care@provenskincare.com.
How do you ensure my formula is safe for my skin?
Every PROVEN formula is built from the Skin Health Index™ — our database of over 20,000 ingredients, 4,000 peer-reviewed papers, and millions of clinical data points — then reviewed against your specific quiz answers (allergies, sensitivities, conditions). Formulas are produced in FDA-approved labs in the USA, dermatologist-reviewed, and covered by a 30-day reformulation guarantee if anything doesn't agree with your skin.
Environment & Lifestyle
Does my environment affect my formula?
Yes. The Skin Genome Quiz™ asks for your zip code and factors in your local climate — humidity, UV index, water hardness, air quality. Your formula is built for the environment your skin actually lives in, not a national average. If you move, update your quiz so the formula recalibrates for the new climate.
How do you adjust for climate and lifestyle?
Your formula updates seasonally without you doing anything — we recalibrate based on a forecast of the next two months in your zip code, so January's formula is built for winter and July's for summer. Lifestyle factors (sleep, stress, travel, life stage) come from your quiz answers — to update those, sign in to your account and use Update Quiz.

What's in PROVEN's personalized line?
Your personalized line is built from your Skin Genome Quiz™, in three parts. The 3-Step System is your core daily routine — personalized cleanser, day moisturizer with SPF, and night cream. The Eye Cream Duo pairs a day and a night eye cream for the more delicate skin around your eyes. The All-In-One Serum is a single concentrated treatment that layers into either. How can a personalized routine help me?
A personalized routine treats your skin as one connected system, not a shelf of products that happen to share a label. Every formula is built from the same Skin Genome Quiz™, so the actives are sequenced and dosed to work together — nothing competes, nothing overlaps, nothing is missing. As your skin shifts with the season, with stress, with age, the formulas recalibrate to match. That is what generic skincare cannot do: stay current with the skin you have right now.
How do I use my personalized products?
Build the routine from cleanser out.
Morning: Cleanser → Serum (if you have it) → Day Moisturizer with SPF → Day Eye Cream.
Evening: Cleanser → Serum → Night Cream → Night Eye Cream.
The Serum goes on damp skin and absorbs in seconds; let it set before layering your moisturizer or eye cream. Use each product as directed — a dime-sized amount of moisturizer, two pumps of cleanser, a small dot of eye cream. If you're new to PROVEN, introduce one product every two to three days so your skin can adjust.
How long until I see results?
Most people see initial changes within 2 to 4 weeks: skin looks more balanced, texture smooths, concerns soften. Visible results on more stubborn concerns (deep hyperpigmentation, fine lines, persistent acne) typically take 6 to 8 weeks of consistent daily use. They are built from the same Skin Genome Quiz™ to work together as a routine, but you are never required to take the full 3-Step System or Eye Cream Duo. Subscribe to one, then add another when your skin asks for it. Each subscription runs independently: skip, pause, or cancel one without touching the others. To add a product, open its page and select Subscribe & Save. Manage everything from your account.
Can I buy without subscribing (one-time purchase)?

Each routine is sized for daily use. The 3-Step System lasts about 8 weeks. The Eye Cream Duo lasts about 12 weeks — eye creams use less product per application. The All-In-One Serum lasts about 8 weeks with daily use.

What is reformulation? What if my formula isn't working?
Reformulation is when we adjust your formula to fit where your skin is now. Your Skin Genome Quiz™ profile updates as you tell us things — a new sensitivity, a season change, a different life stage — and the next formula we ship is recalibrated to match. If a formula isn't working, contact our Customer Care team within 30 days of purchase for a complimentary reformulation per our Return & Reformulation Policy.

What is SkinSpecific?
SkinSpecific is our line of three concern-targeted routines — Acne, Anti-Aging, and Hyperpigmentation. Each is a fixed three-step system (cleanser, night cream, SPF moisturizer) formulated for one primary concern, with dermatologist-vetted actives at clinically meaningful doses. Unlike our personalized line, SkinSpecific formulas are the same for every customer — designed to deliver high performance on a single concern. How is SkinSpecific different from my Personalized routine?
Two different approaches to skin care.
SkinSpecific is targeted intensity — a fixed, high-performance formula focused on one primary concern (acne, aging, or hyperpigmentation). Same formula for every customer. Best for people who want to laser-focus on one issue or who are new to PROVEN and want a streamlined entry point.
Personalized is adaptive — a formula built from your Skin Genome Quiz™ that addresses multiple concerns at once (e.g., acne and fine lines and sensitivity) and updates as your skin, environment, and life stage change. Best for people who want long-term results across the whole picture of their skin.
You can switch between them, or use them together.
Should I choose SkinSpecific or a Personalized routine?
Choose SkinSpecific if you have one hero concern, you're new to PROVEN and want a high-performance starting point, or you want a short-term reset focused on a single issue.
Choose a Personalized routine if you have multiple concerns at once, you've been on a skincare journey for a while and want a formula that evolves with you, or you've hit a plateau on other products and want a formula that adapts.
Most customers who start on SkinSpecific eventually move to a Personalized routine for the adaptive, multi-concern coverage. Both are subscription-eligible and both include the reformulation guarantee.
Can I subscribe to a SkinSpecific routine?

How long does a SkinSpecific routine last?

Can I add non-personalized products to my routine?
Yes. Add-ons are designed to complement personalized and SkinSpecific routines — they layer in, they don't replace any step. If you're not sure how to sequence a specific add-on, our Customer Care team can walk you through it.
Can I subscribe to add-on products?
Most add-ons are subscription-eligible — look for the Subscribe & Save option on the product page. Subscription saves more, and you can adjust the cadence to match how fast you use the product. Using PROVEN
Can I use PROVEN with other skincare brands?
Yes. PROVEN is built to work with whatever else is in your routine. If you're layering products from other brands, apply thinnest-to-thickest (cleanser → toner → serum → moisturizer → SPF or night cream), and give each product 30–60 seconds to absorb before the next layer. Avoid stacking multiple high-strength actives (e.g., retinol + acid exfoliants) in the same step unless your skin is acclimated. If you're combining PROVEN with prescription treatments or strong actives, see the next FAQ on active ingredients.
Can I use PROVEN with active treatments (retinol, acids, Vitamin C)?
Yes — with care. PROVEN formulas already include the actives your quiz recommends, so layering additional retinols, AHAs/BHAs, or high-strength Vitamin C may overlap or amplify ingredients already in your formula. The safest path: indicate what you're using during the quiz so your formula adjusts. If you start a new active treatment after PROVEN, contact our Customer Care team — they'll confirm whether to layer, alternate, or pause to avoid irritation.
How should I store PROVEN?
PROVEN products perform best at room temperature, out of direct sunlight, and away from heat (don't leave them on a sunny bathroom counter or near a vent). A bedroom dresser, vanity drawer, or medicine cabinet works well. Refrigeration isn't required and can actually destabilize some emulsions. Keep caps on tight when not in use to protect the actives — air exposure shortens the life of antioxidants like Vitamin C in particular.
Can I travel with PROVEN?
Yes. Every PROVEN bottle and jar ships in TSA-compliant carry-on sizes. Personalized Cleanser: 50ml. Day Moisturizer: 30ml. Night Cream: 30ml. Day Eye Cream: 15ml. Night Eye Cream: 15ml. Personalized Serum: 30ml. Pack them in a clear quart-sized bag and you're set.

Is PROVEN safe during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or for kids?
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Indicate it during the Skin Genome Quiz™ and your formula will exclude ingredients not recommended in those windows (retinoids, salicylic acid above certain thresholds, certain essential oils). If you're already a customer and become pregnant, sign in to your account, use Update Quiz, and your formula will adjust on the next order.
Kids and teens: PROVEN is designed for adults, but younger users with a parent's involvement are welcome to take the quiz. The formula will be calibrated to age-appropriate actives. If you have questions about whether PROVEN is right for a child or teen in your life, our Customer Care team is happy to walk through it with you.
Is PROVEN non-comedogenic and oil-free?
Yes. PROVEN products are non-comedogenic — formulated and tested to not clog pores. Our personalized formulas avoid ingredients with high comedogenic ratings, and where oil is included, we use non-pore-clogging plant oils (squalane, jojoba) selected for compatibility with acne-prone and oily skin types. If your formula is built on the quiz, your specific oil content is calibrated to your skin type.

Materials & Packaging
Is PROVEN vegan, cruelty-free, clean, gluten-free, and fragrance-free?
PROVEN is:
- Cruelty-free — never tested on animals; PETA-certified.
- Vegan — formulas don't contain animal-derived ingredients.
- Clean — we exclude parabens, sulfates, phthalates, formaldehyde-releasers, and a defined list of known irritants and concerns.
- Gluten-free — no gluten-containing ingredients.
- Fragrance-aware — a small percentage of formulas include light fragrance for sensory experience. Select fragrance-free during the quiz (or update your preferences) and your formula will exclude it.

How is PROVEN packaged and is it recyclable?
PROVEN bottles, tubes, and jars are designed for recyclability — most components are recyclable in standard curbside programs. Check the symbol on each container. Pumps and dropper mechanisms may need to be separated before recycling. We're transitioning to post-consumer recycled plastic across more SKUs and reducing packaging weight per shipment. How much do I save by subscribing?
Go to your account under Subscriptions & Orders. Each subscription card shows a running total — "$X saved by subscribing" — that reflects the discount you've earned versus one-time pricing across the life of that subscription.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Shop Pay, and Shop Pay Installments. Klarna and Afterpay are available on qualifying orders.
Changing Your Schedule
How do I skip or postpone an upcoming order?
From your account, find the subscription you'd like to skip and select Skip and choose how long you'd like to delay the next order. Skip options scale with your subscription cadence. You can also gift the next order to someone else from the same screen.
How do I change my next shipment date?
From your account, find the subscription you'd like to reschedule and select Next order date, choose your new date from the calendar, and confirm. The change takes effect immediately and your next order will process on the date you picked.
How do I change my subscription frequency?
From your account, find the subscription you'd like to adjust and select Edit frequency, choose your new cadence, and confirm. The change applies to all future orders.
How do I pause my subscription?
From your account, find the subscription you'd like to pause and select Pause and confirm. Your subscription holds in place until you reactivate it — no orders process, no charges run. You can resume anytime by selecting Reactivate on the same subscription card.
How do I cancel my subscription?
From your account, find the subscription you'd like to cancel and select Cancel and follow the prompts. We'll ask a few questions about your experience so we can do better — and offer alternatives like pausing, changing frequency, or reformulating if something isn't working. You can resume a canceled subscription anytime.
How do I resume or reactivate my subscription?
Go to your account under Subscriptions & Orders. Canceled subscriptions appear on the same page with a Reactivate option. Select Reactivate, confirm your products and frequency, and your subscription resumes. You can also reach care@provenskincare.com if you'd like help restarting with a fresh quiz or different products.
How do I get my next order shipped sooner?
From your account, find the subscription you'd like to receive sooner and select Get now and confirm. Your next order processes immediately at your usual subscription price and ships within 1–2 business days. Your regular cadence resumes after.
How do I gift my next subscription order to someone else?
Go to your account under Subscriptions & Orders. Select Skip on the subscription you'd like to gift, then choose Gift order. Enter the recipient's shipping address and a short note if you'd like. Your card on file is charged at your subscription price, the order ships to the recipient, and your subscription cadence continues unchanged.
How do I split a subscription into separate deliveries?
From your account, find the subscription you'd like to split and select Split subscription, choose which products move to their own schedule, and confirm. Each split subscription gets its own next order date, frequency, and discount, so you can stagger deliveries however suits you.
Can I combine my subscriptions into one delivery?
Yes. Go to your account under Subscriptions & Orders. On any subscription, select Merge subscriptions, choose the subscription you'd like to merge it with, and confirm. The merged subscription ships everything together on a single cadence.
Billing & Credits
How do I update my billing information?
Go to your account under Subscriptions & Orders. Under Billing on your subscription card, select Edit, enter your new card or billing address, and save. The new payment method applies to your next order. You can also add a backup card from the top of the Subscriptions page — it runs automatically if your primary card fails.
Can I add a backup payment method?
Yes. Go to your account under Subscriptions & Orders. At the top of the page, select Add backup card and enter the card details. If your primary card fails at order time, we charge the backup automatically — no missed shipments, no manual fix.
Can I apply a discount code to my subscription?
Yes. From your account, find the subscription you'd like to discount and select Apply discount, enter your code, and confirm. Eligible codes apply to your next order automatically.
What are PROVEN Credits and how do I use them?
Credits are PROVEN's rewards currency. You earn them on every subscription order — the amount appears as Earn X Credits on each subscription card under Subscriptions & Orders. Credits accumulate in your account and apply automatically at checkout against eligible purchases. You can see your credit balance and history under Profile.
Do you have a referral program?
The PROVEN referral program is currently paused while we build a new version. The legacy program — friend codes, advocate dashboards, and credit-by-referral — is no longer active. How does ordering work?
After you complete the Skin Genome Quiz™, add a product to your cart and choose Subscribe & Save or one-time purchase. Personalized formulas are produced after you order, so they ship after a brief production window. In-stock SkinSpecific routines and add-ons ship faster. Personalized products ship free; non-personalized orders ship free over $50. You'll receive an order confirmation, then a shipping confirmation with tracking once the package leaves the warehouse.
How do I edit my order after I've placed it?
Yes — until processing begins. Your Skin Genome Quiz™, products, shipping address, billing, and next order date can all be updated under Subscriptions & Orders up to the day before your next order is scheduled to process. Once an order moves into processing, those changes apply to the following shipment instead.
How do I change my shipping address?
Sign in to your account, then open Subscriptions & Orders from the dropdown in the top right corner. Under Shipping information on your subscription card, select Edit, enter your new address, and save. The next order to ship will use the updated address.
Shipping & Delivery
Is there an additional shipping charge?
Free shipping on all personalized products. Non-personalized orders ship free over $50 — under that, shipping rates appear at checkout. International (Canada) has its own rate.
Can I ship to a non-home address (work, PO Box, military)?
Yes. PROVEN ships to home, work, PO boxes, and APO/FPO/DPO military addresses within the United States. To change the address on an existing order or set a new shipping address for a subscription, go to your account and edit the address under the subscription or order in Subscriptions & Orders. If your order has already shipped, contact care@provenskincare.com — we can sometimes intercept.
Do you ship internationally?
PROVEN currently ships within the United States (including APO/FPO/DPO addresses) and Canada. We're not shipping to other international destinations at this time. If you're outside the US or Canada and want to be notified when we expand, email care@provenskincare.com and we'll add you to the waitlist.
When will my order arrive?
Most US orders arrive within 5–7 business days of processing. Personalized formulas are made to order, so allow 1–2 business days for production before the shipping clock starts. International delivery times vary by destination — exact estimates are shown at checkout based on your address.
My package says delivered but I don't have it. What now?
First, check around the delivery area — couriers occasionally leave packages with neighbors, at side doors, or with building staff. Then check your tracking page for delivery notes (sometimes a photo is attached) and your email for any redelivery notifications. If the package still hasn't turned up after 48 hours, email care@provenskincare.com with your order number — we'll file a claim with the carrier and replace or refund the order. Most missing packages are resolved within 3–5 business days.
Tracking
How do I track my order?
Go to your account under Subscriptions & Orders. Select Order history at the top of the page, then choose the order you'd like to track. Your shipping carrier and tracking number appear there, with a direct link to the carrier's live tracking page. Tracking updates can take up to 48 hours to appear after your order ships.
Why hasn't my tracking updated?
Tracking pages sometimes pause for 24–48 hours between scans as packages move between carrier hubs. That gap is normal and almost always resolves on its own. If your tracking hasn't updated in more than 5 business days, email care@provenskincare.com with your order number and we'll investigate with the carrier right away.

Signing In
How do I sign in?
Click the user icon in the top right of any page — that opens the sign-in panel. Enter the email on your account and we'll send a one-time sign-in link. Open the email and click the link to sign in (the link is single-use and expires after a short window). You can also sign in with Google, or if you've set a password on your account, choose Sign in with password instead.
How do I reset my password?
Click the user icon in the top right to open the sign-in panel. Select Sign in with password, then choose Forgot password. Enter the email on your account, open the reset email, and follow the link to set a new password. If you'd rather skip passwords entirely, the default sign-in option emails you a one-time link — no password required.
How do I update my password or email?
To update your password: click the user icon in the top right, select Sign in with password, then Forgot password. Reset from the email we send.
To update your email: sign in to your account and update it directly in your profile settings. If you'd rather have our team handle it, message care@provenskincare.com from your current address.
Privacy & Account
How do I delete my account or my data?
Email care@provenskincare.com from the address on your account with the subject "Delete my account." We'll confirm and complete the deletion within the timeframe required by applicable privacy law. Cancel any active subscriptions first so no future orders process. Deletion is permanent — your order history, quiz results, and personalized formulas will not be recoverable.
How do I unsubscribe from emails?
Click the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any PROVEN marketing email. You can also email care@provenskincare.com to opt out entirely. Unsubscribing from marketing emails won't affect transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping updates, subscription notifications) — those keep coming as long as you have an active subscription.
How is my data protected?
Your data is handled per our Privacy Policy — what we collect, how we use it, and your rights to access, correct, or delete it. Privacy rights vary by jurisdiction (CCPA in California, GDPR in the EU/UK, and similar laws elsewhere). To exercise any rights, email care@provenskincare.com from the email on your account.
